The Nordic air always seems fresh and pure. Iceland is known for its dramatic landscape with volcanoes, geysers, hot springs and lava fields. One of the spell binding natural wonder that occurs in the Nordic wilderness during dark winter nights is known as ‘Northern lights’ or ‘Aurora Borealis’. Experts opine that the best time to experience northern lights is between mid-September & March (It is believed that there are good chances of heightened activity around equinoxes: September 21st & March 21st.

This tour is dedicated to the nature lovers who would love to grab the front seat for witnessing this ‘celestial marvel’, a lifetime opportunity and a top priority on travelers bucket list. The tour has so much more to offer, as we explore the dramatic landscape of this beautiful country with a round trip around the famous ring road that circles Iceland. Added to the thrill is a stop-over at Helsinki, the vibrant capital of Finland.

DETAILED ITINERARY

DAY 1:

We embark on this epic tour from Delhi in the morning and arrive at Helsinki (afternoon), the capital of Finland for a 2 night stopover. Finland’s capital is a sleek, modern urban area of 1.4 million people. Since Finland was once a part of Russia, you’ll find Russian inspired architecture. You’ll also find innovative, cutting edge architecture. Popular sites to visit in Helsinki are: Temppeliaukio Church, Helsinki cathedral, Camppi chapel etc. We can explore these places through 24 hour Helsinki card.

DAY 2:

There are a lot of options to explore the nearby area: Visit to Porvoo old town, Shore excursion to Soumenllina. We can also undertake a full day tour of historic Tallinn, the capital of Estonia depending on the time available.

DAY 3:

We board the morning flight to Iceland (the land of ‘fire & ice’) and arrive at Reykjavik, the Northern most capital city in the world. We shall explore Reykjavik city at our own pace with a 24 hour ‘Reykjavik card’ at our disposal, which allows unlimited access to several attractions & free rides on city buses. Some of the top attractions of Reykjavik include: Harpa music hall, Hallgrimskirkja church, Sun voyager, The pearl, Laugavegur, Aurora Northern Lights centre. The city also boasts of several museums & art galleries, most of which offer free entrance with the Reykjavik card. After a hectic day out with public transport we shall await an opportunity to witness Northern lights in the night.

DAY 4:

After breakfast we embark on a 6 day ‘Ring Road’ guided tour. From Reykjavik we will take the Golden Circle route, taking us to visit Thingvellir National Park (Þingvellir), Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir geothermal area. After stops at a couple of iconic South Coast waterfalls we will end our day close to the well-known Eyjafjallajokull glacier.

DAY 5:

We‘ll will visit Reynisfjara black sand beach and make stops at many other places including Mýrssandur, Eldhraun, we will go glacier hiking from Skaftafell in Vatnajökull National Park and end our day at Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon and the Diamond Beach. You will spend the night in Höfn, close to Vatnajökull glacier.

DAY 6:

We begin in Hornafjordur (Hornfjörður), in this area our chances of seeing reindeer are very good. Your will see the amazing nature around Hvalnes and Lóns before we stop at Djupivogur for more nature and culture. We will come to Lagarfljot, this lake is home to the giant Lagarfljot worm, and take a hike to two amazing waterfalls, Hengifoss and Litlanesfoss. Hopefully, all of our nights will be northern lights nights, provided we get clear skies.

DAY 7:

From the Lake Lagarfljót area we journey to Modrudalur, near Modrudalsoraefi (try to pronounce that!) on our way to visit Dettifoss Waterfall. We‘ll also go to the colorful geothermal area of Namaskard, before replenishing our energy at Myvatn Nature Baths, you can enjoy bathing, take a stroll to see the views, or relax in the café. Your day will end near Akureyri.

DAY 8:

There is a lot to see and experience today. You will see the sights around Akureyri and the stunning mountain views of Eyjafjordur on your way to Dalvík for a whale watching trip, you can also have a go at sea angling if you want. We journey around Trollaskagi, a breathtaking peninsula, and stop at Siglufjordur, a lovely fishing town with a well-preserved history.

DAY 9:

On your final day of the guided tour we will see more incredible natural wonders and Reykholt, the historic home-place of Snorri Sturluson, a famous writer of Icelandic Sagas. Exploring Borgarfjörður, we also see Deildartunguhver hot spring, the Hraunfossar cascade and Barnafoss waterfall. Returning to Reykjavík we will show you the dramatic scenery and wildlife around Hvalfjörður. We expect to arrive in the capital around 17:00-18:00. Later in the evening we can visit the famous ‘Blue Lagoon’.

DAY 10:

After breakfast, it would be time to bid farewell to Iceland with abundant memories, to catch the flight back home.
